About Neturia Block

Neturia (Community Development Block) is an administrative division in Raghunathpur subdivision of Purulia district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Headquarter of this block is at Gobag, Ramkanali Gram Panchayats of Neturia block/Panchayat Samiti are: Bhamuria, Digha, Guniara, Janarbandi, Raibandh, Saltore and Sarbari. Neturia is located at 23˚39'47"N 86˚49'37"E and has an area of 199.37 Km2. .

Demographic Status

As per 2001 census, Neturia block had a total population 90,632, out of which 46,900 were males and 43,732 were females. Scheduled castes at 26,821 formed around one -third the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 20,411, forming around one-fourth the population. Neturia Block registered a population growth of 10.24 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. According to the 2011 census provisional figures, the population of Neturia stands at 101922. The main tribal belts in this area are Chholaberia, Shyampur, Eriakusum, Ankduara, Duhugora, Kochbel, Keliabali, Pahargora, Shiulibari, Madandih, Parbatpur, Paharabera, Bagmara, Chakoltabari which have a rich, cultural tradition.

Literacy

As per 2011 census, Neturia block has a total literacy of 57.11 % for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 34.13 % female literacy 22.98 %..

The place is abounding in a rich heritage of tribal culture indigenous to the region. Tribal life with its unique rituals, festivals and way of life enriches the ethnic flavour of this soil.
